A Z A Z E L

Azazel was a site-specific work produced in collaboration with synthetic biologists Dr Bernardo Pollak and Dr Anton Kan (University of Cambridge). The concept was based on the biblical fallen angel or scapegoat, looking at why we find beauty in biological systems that are evolved, bred, produced or made more attractive ultimately in order to satisfy human pleasure. I used my practice to question why we as humans wish to co-create with living matter, and to interrogate human–nonhuman relations and reliance.
